Inti Raymi 2017
The Inti Raymi or festival of the Sun was one of the largest celebrations that took place in the inca empire. Implanted during the government of Inka Pachakuteq Yupanki, rituals are carried out on an annual basis in Cusco, and will be replicated in other parts of the extensive Tawantinsuyo, between the end of the harvest and the beginning of the winter equinox of the Andes, i.e. in the second half of the month of June.
It was the equivalent of what today is for us the new year’s party, that was the beginning of a new time and ended all the previous crop year between the months of May or June, and at the same time initiating another agricultural cycle starting from the month of July, so that the period between the last week of the month of June and the beginning of the month of July was a period of transition of the year old agricultural to a new one, so that the feast was dedicated to this event.
The Inti Raymi from the year 2001 is the first Festival of National Identity, celebrating the 71 years of their reintegration into the universal culture in 1944, the Inti Raymi 2017, expects to maintain its character of ritual ceremony evocative of that great Easter solar inca put on by generations of locals.
